Kalpetta: Pushpathoor Vinodkumar, the Booth Level Officer of booth number 102 of Kalpetta Municipality, has emerged as the first BLO to complete the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) procedures in the state. He said he uploaded all the details to the Election Commission's site early Monday morning.

With 14 years of experience as a BLO, Vinodkumar said he worked around the clock for the past three days to complete the uploading and finished the last one at 1.30 am Monday.

By 10 am, he received a call from Wayanad District Collector D R Meghasree, congratulating him on becoming the first in the district. A day later, he began receiving calls from state-level officials in charge of SIR, praising him for being the first BLO in Kerala to complete the work.

Vinodkumar credited his elaborate preparations made well in advance for his success. A longtime trainer for BLOs, he dexterously implemented many of the strategies he usually shared during training sessions to finish the work in just 12 days.

Vinodkumar told Onmanorama that he categorised voters into different heads, such as those registered in 2002, those enlisted to vote in 2025, people who came into the constituency after marriage, and NRI voters. "This sorting helped me complete the task faster," he said.

He said he started working at 6 am. There are many tribal settlements under his jurisdiction. "Being daily labourers, the residents would be available at home either in the morning or in the evening," he said.

Vinodkumar said he uploaded the collected data daily onto the EC website. "On most days, I completed the field work by 9 pm," he said. "As I was also a trainer for BLOs this year, I had done some research to understand the challenges in the process, which helped him a lot," he added.

A teacher at AUP School, Padinjarethara, Vinodkumar, is a native of Karattupadi, Thekkumthara. Now the district administration has entrusted him with assisting other booths where the process is progressing slowly.
