The elegant 3300 sqft house built on a 13-cent plot in Kottayam is a beautiful structure where the classic colonial architecture merges with chic contemporary style. The owners Jimmy Mathew and Elizabeth had entrusted their friend Stanley Cyriac to draw the plan of their dream dwelling. Owing to the unique features of the plot, this house is built in three stories consisting of a cellar, the ground floor and a floor above.

Elevation

The plan was drawn after making a clear idea about the features of the land. The design was finalized after observing several houses. The roof is in many levels, and the white-and-purple hue is a highlighting feature of the elevation. Terracotta tiles paved on the roof provide a cool atmosphere inside the house.

Sit-out

The sit-out is arranged in a unique design ensuring privacy. A partition in plywood planks with cushions curvy design add charm to the space. The family had this piece of furniture specially done after seeing a similar one in a furniture shop.

Living area

The hall is vast and spacious. Long sofas and sitting spaces are arranged here to accommodate the family members and guests. Cream and coffee brown theme is followed in the living area, and the custom-made furniture compliments it well. A small center table in the middle of the hall makes sure that the space isn’t crowded with furniture. There is a prayer area adjacent to the living room and the wall here is decorated with beautiful wall paper.

Dining area

The four-seater dining table can accommodate up to six people. There is a family living room close to it. The upholstery was redone on the sofa placed in the living room. From here, one can enter the patio which is the most favorite space of the family members. The cross ventilation ensures that there is enough air circulation inside the house.

Partition

There are two bedrooms, a home theater and utility area in the cellar. The ground floor has the living and dining areas, kitchen and three bedrooms. The huge hall on the first floor has been turned into a play area for kids. All the spaces are separated by pergolas.

Bedroom

There are 5 bath attached bedrooms in the house. Each room is arranged in different themes. All rooms are at least 11 feet high and this helps to reduce the heat inside the rooms. LED lights are installed when the plastering was done, so there isn’t any false ceiling in the house.

Kitchen

The kitchen cabinets are made with aluminum composite panels which can resist wetness. It is also easy to clean it. There is an overhead cabinet above the sink. All the other cabinets are arranged along two walls. The rows inside the cabinet have been specially designed according to the shape and size of the utensils.
