The traditional concept of house construction in Kerala is undergoing a paradigm shift. Many are ready to try out unique and novel ideas in the interiors which transform their abodes to chic smart homes. Muhammed, a native of Karuvarakundu in Malappuram is no different. He is thrilled to show around his house which utilizes the scope of smart homes.
“My house is at a beautiful place in Malappuram district. We wanted a house with spacious and vast areas from where we could enjoy the charming sights outside. It rains heavily here during the monsoon seasons. So slope roof is done on the elevation,” said Muhammed.
The gate is designed in the shape of a traditional ‘padippura’. The gate and the exterior walls of the house are clad with fundermax panels. The beautiful landscaping perfectly complements the natural setting of the 1-acre plot. Natural stones are paved on the driveway and the charm of the Mexican grass could be seen on the beautiful meadows and gardens.
There is a living space, dining area and five bedrooms in this house which has an area of 6600 sq ft. The furniture is custom-made to suit the theme of the interiors. The flooring done in exquisite Italian marble adds a regal charm to the interiors.
The interiors of the house are designed in the theme of ‘three leaves’. This unique theme is visible in the ceilings and paneling as well. The designer ceiling is done by cutting out the design of the three leaves in acrylic sheets and installing concealed lighting.
Muhammed says that the interior courtyard is the family’s favorite corner. A skylight in double height brings in lots of natural light. The wall beside the courtyard is highlighted using texture paint.
Three bedrooms are on the upper storey. An entire wall on one side is installed with sliding glass door. Automatic rolling shutters ensure security as well. All the bedrooms are bath-attached with wardrobe facilities and in – built dressing units.
The kitchen is furnished in plywood – veneer finish. Nano white is paved on the counter top. Oven and fridge are installed as in – built facilities.
This house amazingly explores the scope of automation. The switches are feather touch and the electrical appliances could be operated with Bluetooth – wifi connections. 15 KW solar panels are installed on the roof to meet the electrical requirements of this house. Smart sensors switch on the lights automatically at night.
