In harmony with nature: This Thrissur house is a cool haven

Thrissur house
Though the exteriors have the amazing look of a traditional abode, it has all the facilities of a perfect modern house.

Swaroop’s elegant house that stands on a 10 cents plot in Varadarapilly, Thrissur, Kerala, is truly unique and mesmerizing in many ways. The house, which emanates the regal charm of the traditional architectural style, is perfectly in harmony with the beautiful nature.

Though the exteriors have the amazing look of a traditional abode, it has all the facilities of a perfect modern house. This house is designed by architect Sanil Chacko of the Space Scapes Architects which is based in Thrissur. The family wanted a house with three bedrooms, and that too, within a reasonable budget. The architect successfully designed this 1800 sq ft house within a budget of Rs 20 lakh.

The architect had assured the family that old materials could be purchased for low cost and reused, which would help reduce the cost of construction significantly. When a 100-year-old house was demolished in the neighborhood, all the materials that could be reused were purchased for low price. It includes beautiful vintage doors, windows and even the laterite stones.

When nature beckons

The slanting roof and the long pillars perfectly reflect the elegance of the traditional architecture. The presence of nature in the interiors and the exteriors add a scintillating charm to this house. The spaces are wisely utilized in the interiors which are designed in the open style. Partitions are avoided to make the interiors look vast and spacious.

Minimal furniture and decor adorn the interiors. The arrangements in the living and dining areas and the courtyard enhance the classy look of the house.

The long corridor which begins at the dining area and ends in a bedroom is one of the highlighting features of this house. A wash area and a TV unit too are arranged here. Two courtyards, arranged in the living space and also in the corridor, bring a slice of nature into the house.

The family members were actively involved while choosing the perfect furniture and décor for the interiors. Unique curios collected and purchased from different places add to the overlook look of the house. These are arranged meticulously in such a way that it caters to the needs and preferences of the family while enhancing the mesmerizing look of the interiors. As the interiors are designed without following a particular theme or pattern, many spaces got evolved into perfect spots which fill the house with tranquility and positivity.

Factors which helped keep a tab on the expenses:

The doors, windows and even the laterite stones from a 100-year-old house was purchased on a low cost and reused. Many of them were in perfect condition and were used without treating it.

Furniture are either made with old wood or redone with a change in upholstery.

Reasonably priced ceramic tiles which are easy to maintain are paved on the floor.
