Architect Alex is excited to share his experience of designing an elegant house for his favorite teacher Pradeep who taught him at school. “It was during my school days that I started a close bonding with Pradeep sir, who was my chemistry teacher. His disciples were frequent visitors to his old house. His wife Anila teacher too loved his students. They had lived in a small house which had space constraints. Years later, as if fate would have it, sir came to me, asking me to design a house which suited the contemporary times,” recalls Alex.
The house designed by Alex for his favorite teacher stands in a 20 cents plot in Chambakkara, Kottayam. The old house that stood on a narrow yet long plot was demolished before constructing the new house there. The beautiful orange hue of the exteriors draws one's attention and the jali design which was installed to let in lots of natural light and fresh air is yet another highlight of the exteriors.
There is a sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen and four bedrooms in the new house. The living area is the liveliest space in the house. Alex says that the beautiful memories of his school days and the gatherings at his teacher’s house had inspired him while designing these spaces. The interiors designed in the open style ensure excellent ventilation and makes spaces look vast.
The interiors aren’t crowded with furniture or other decor. Long glass windows let in pleasant sunshine which illuminates the entire house. So there is no need to switch on the lights during the day time. The prayer area is arranged on a highlighted wall.
Spaces have been wisely utilized by arranging the family living area beneath the stairway. There are enough storage facilities in the bedrooms. Storage has been given prime importance in the kitchen and the work area as well.
The beautiful mementos gifted lovingly by Pradeep’s countless disciples adorn the walls. The contract work was done by engineer Jayalal who is Pradeep’s friend. The beautiful chemistry of love and friendship has worked out well while constructing this charming house. Alex is happy and proud that he could honor his favorite teacher by designing his dream abode.
