Dream homes of four brothers who opted out boundary walls

Four house complex in Kannur
The four brothers had decided to buy a single huge plot, so that they can live together.

The four identical houses that stand majestically in a sprawling 60 cents of land in Thazhapookom, Kannur are, currently, the talk of the town. The houses owned by four brothers, Hameed, Mehroof, Nazar and Firoz, stand out for its striking similarities and amazing facilities. Three of them are expatriates while one brother is a businessman based in Bengaluru. Architect Muhammed Shafi of Arkitecture Studio deserves credit for designing the four houses which features elegant and classy exteriors and luxurious facilities.

The four brothers had decided to buy a single huge plot, so that they can live together. The idea of building four identical houses came up as an exciting thought. The architect made sure that the houses were designed amazingly to suit the interests and preferences of the families. Each house has a car porch, sit out, formal and family living areas, dining space, staircase, upper living space, five bedrooms, a pantry kitchen and an adjacent work area arranged in 4000 sqft. Though the facilities are similar, the interiors of each house are designed uniquely.

The elongated plot gets narrower in the back side and has roads running on both the sides. These positive features of the plot were exploited to design the houses, by projecting their exterior looks. The pillar works on the exterior walls and the roof remind one of the Egyptian pyramids. The beautiful golden hue highlights the groves, texture and claddings on the outer walls.

The formal living areas in all the four houses are designed in double height. This feature helps the houses look vast and spacious. Exquisite plastering, textures and marble works adorn the walls here. The floor, laid with exclusive Italian marble, enhances the regal charm of the interiors. Teak wood is used to make a few pieces of furniture and paneling as well. Jali designs, done by doing CNC cutting on wood, are a stunning feature. The majestic stairways and its hand railings are crafted in teak.

The artificial lighting lends a chic and stylish look to the interiors. Mood lighting enables the family members to arrange the lighting according to their moods and preferences. The exquisite sofa, classy dining tables, scintillating chandeliers and charming LED lights are all imported. The spacious dining tables can comfortably accommodate eight persons.

The bedrooms are designed in unique themes. The paneling on the headboards stands out for their different shades of colour. The bath-attached bedrooms have wardrobes, separate dressing spaces and study spaces as well.

The kitchen is designed in the glossy laminate finish. In – built fridge and oven saves space. Most of the furnishing materials used in the kitchen is imported from China.

There are gates in the front and back of the plot. The yard is paved with natural stones. The houses aren’t separated with boundary walls and this alone shows the beautiful relationship that the brothers share. The water supply to the four houses is facilitated from two wells dug in the plot. The over head view of the houses is splendid and breathtakingly beautiful. The identical houses look like four amazing drops of pearls from a precious chain.

Designer Shafi admits it was quite challenging to undertake the construction of four identical houses at the same time. It was precision and planning which helped him build the four houses with unbelievable perfection. It took around two years to complete the construction of the houses. These four houses have already become a major landmark in Thazhepookom. People are curious to know more of the houses and many even come from the neighboring districts to have a look at these structures. The owners say that at least three families would visit their houses in a week to enjoy these architectural marvels.
