Kaduthuruthy (Kottayam): Archana Women’s Center based in Ettumanur, Kottayam, Kerala has set an amazing example by building an environment-friendly house using a unique Dutch technology, in Vadayar, in Thalayolaparambu, Kottayam where the floods had wreaked havoc, a year ago. The construction of the house using just bamboos has been already completed. The 650 sq ft house is built for Mattathil MV Manoj and his family who had lost everything in the flood.
Peter Hoginberg, a native of Holland, had stayed in Mundar in kaduthuruthy, Kottayam for days, to study the prospects and feasibility of building houses using the Dutch technology.
He also provided the technical know-how to build the bamboo house in the 3 cents plot. The construction was overseen by Archana Women’s Center program officer PK Jayasree, Omana Soman and Radhika Prakash. The house was built in just 90 days.
The floor of the house was constructed by first fixing 12 concrete pillars in a marshy land and then arranging bamboos at a height of four-and-half-feet. Light-weighted ferro cement slabs are used as walls. A special chemical treatment too is done to increase the durability of the bamboo.
This beautiful house has 2 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and a bathroom. Archana Women’s Center director Sr. Thresiamma Mathew said that the key of the house would be handed over to Manoj at an event next week.
