Jogy Jose’s brand new, cost effective house built at Ezhupunna in Alappuzha, Kerala is designed by his brother Peter Jose who is a well-known architect. The elevation of the house is designed in a perfect box shape to suit the structure of the 7 cents rectangular plot. The family’s love for greenery is quite evident from the beautiful gardens and flowering plants that are kept both inside and outside the house.

The upper floor balcony stands out for its clever and artistic use of the GI tubes. Creepers could be grown on these tubes, which will then create a canopy of greenery here. The colourful flowering plants line the balcony making it look incredibly attractive and close to nature as well. Besides, a beautiful garden is set in the landscape in the front yard. The landscape, beautified with Mexican grass and natural stones, in alternate layers, enhances the elegant look of the exteriors.

This amazing structure covering a1540 sq ft area has a sit-out, formal living area, dining space, 3 bath-attached bedrooms and a kitchen. The interiors are arranged in the open style. The dining area, designed in double height, makes the spaces look incredibly vast and spacious.

Ceramic tiles, that are reasonably priced, are mostly used for flooring. Meanwhile, the formal living area is paved with wooden flooring, using discarded teak wood. Instead of expensive timber, imported Canadian hemlock wood, which is as sturdy and beautiful, are used for furnishing. This wood is used for the paneling and for making wardrobes and shelves.

The kitchen counter top is paved with nano white and granite as well. An adjacent work area completes the kitchen.

The construction of this elegant house, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a moderate budget of Rs 27 lakh. “From the planning to the house warming ceremony, everything was overseen by my brother. He understood our interests and preferences very well, and designed the most amazing dwelling for us. So, the credit for our beautiful house definitely goes to my brother Peter Jose,” says an elated Jogy.

Avoiding the car porch helped reducing the expenses to a great extent. Light points are directly installed without adding the false ceiling. The limited use of timber is another factor which kept the expenses in check. Canadian hemlock wood, which is less expensive, is used for furnishing in the interiors.
