Brothers Ajesh and Ranjith have been sharing a special bond since childhood and always wished to live close to each other. So, when they decided to build their dream homes, they wanted them to be on the same premises. They divided the 34 cents plot they inherited as ancestral property at Karivelloor in Kannur, Kerala, into two sections to construct the houses. The construction of both the houses began at the same time. Interestingly, both families celebrated the house warming ceremonies of their respected houses on the same day.

Though they share a compound, the brothers had different interests about their houses. Ajesh preferred a traditional house while Ranjith wanted a chic house designed in the ontemporary style. It was Ranjith who designed both the houses. Ajesh’s house, built in the traditional style, was featured in this section a few days ago. Now, it is Ranjith’s turn to show around his fabulous abode that oozes modern vibes.

The elevation is done in the flat box structure. Both the interiors and the exteriors don the serene charm of the white hue.

Designed in 2800 sqft, this remarkable house has a sit out, formal and family living areas, dining space, four bedrooms, and kitchen with a work area, pooja space, upper living area and a balcony as well.

The L-shaped couch is a stylish feature in the formal living area that has an entire wall lined with glass windows. Meanwhile, another wall is decorated with small mirrors in the shape of water droplets.

The interiors are mostly furnished in MDF with PU finish. The gypsum false ceiling and the LED light fittings adds an amazing ambience to the spaces.

The stairway is a sturdy steel structure. The handrails, meanwhile, feature a classy combination of wood and toughened glass.

The bedrooms are bath-attached with in – built wardrobes and dressing spaces.

The island kitchen is open and spacious. The cabinets, meanwhile, are done in marine plywood with acrylic paint finish. The counter top has been paved with nano white. The counter on one side is used as a breakfast table as well.

The fact that both the houses share a well shows the spectacular bond that the families share. Moreover, there is a pond too on one side of the plot.

“There would be lots of expectations when an architect designs his own house. Besides, I had to oversee the construction of my brother’s traditional house as well. It was indeed a challenge and also a matter of great joy to simultaneously design and build two houses in different styles,” says Renjith.
