The rustic charm of the exposed bricks and mud bricks make this house stand apart from other houses in the area.

Sathish’s brand new house in a 4 cents plot at Chittoor in Ernakulam, Kerala, is the perfect example of a beautiful, compact and space efficient home for those who wish to construct houses in small plots in the hearts of cities.

“I hail from Palakkad. I had always wished to build a house of my own in my hometown. However, we later decided to build our house at Kochi where we have been living for quite a few years due to work,” says Sathish.

The family had bought 4 cents plot in Chittoor. They approached engineer Anil Nair at the Habitat group to design a house with all the required amenities in this small plot. Sathish is all praise for his designer who had done a fabulous job designing the perfect home, just as they had wished.

The rustic charm of the exposed bricks and mud bricks make this house stand apart from other houses in the area. The house is designed in three floors to include all the required facilities. The splendid house, designed in 2000 sqft has a sit out, living and dining areas, kitchen with a work area and a bedroom in the ground floor. Meanwhile, there are two bedrooms, upper living area, study space and a balcony in the first storey. Besides, a part of the terrace has been separated using grille and sheet to host parties. Meanwhile, the rest of the terrace area has been reserved for a garden. Apart from the main gate, there is a small wicket gate as well.

The interiors are arranged in a way which allows excellent communication between spaces. However, privacy has been ensured at certain spaces as well. Lighter shades of hues that are easy on the eyes are mostly used in the interiors. A fabulous mural painting, done by Sathish himself, is the center piece in the living area.

The dining area is simple yet beautiful. A wall here is highlighted to arrange the pooja space. The upper living area has been turned into a study space for the kids.

Two bedrooms are bath attached and there is a common bathroom in the upper floor.

Huge wardrobes are arranged in the bedrooms for storage. Meanwhile, the bedroom in the upper storey has a bay window as well.

The kitchen is furnished in the grey and white theme. Lots of over head cabinets in marine plywood finish are arranged here for storage.

One could enjoy the spectacular views of the lake from the balcony. Besides, the cool breeze that flows from the lake makes the interiors extremely pleasant as well.

“I am very happy that I could build my dream home that I had wished to build in my hometown, in this smaller plot at Kochi. Habitat too deserves the credit for that. Our guests often wonder whether this house is actually built on a 4 cents plot,” says Sathish with a smile.
