How perseverance helped NRI build an exquisite mansion in Malappuram

mansion in Malappuram
The house features a blend of colonial and contemporary architectural styles.

The tale of this majestic mansion is intertwined with the amazing success saga of Usman Aalungathodi, a common man who earned the luxuries of life just through sheer hard work and perseverance. Born into a poor family in Malappuram, Usman had boarded a plane to Saudi Arabia, 23 years ago, to work as a laborer in a hotel. He had worked in that hotel for around a decade before opening a small eatery on his own. Gradually, his business grew and he is now the owner of a restaurant chain that has many outlets at various locations in the Gulf.

Usman had built a small house at Thalappara in Malappuram, Kerala, when he had just begun his business. He has always cherished the dream of building a palatial mansion in his hometown if his business and life improved. This New Year, Usman and his family moved into this grand dwelling that exudes luxury and elegance.

The house features a blend of colonial and contemporary architectural styles. The spacious front yard allows one to enjoy the grand elevation of the house in all its glory. Exquisite Bangalore stone and Kota stones are paved on the front yard. Sloped roofs paved with shingles are the highlight of the elevation. Red colored natural stone cladding brought exclusively from Rajasthan grants a regal look to the outer walls.

The spacious sit-out that is 10 meters long is instantly eye catching. Interestingly, pillars aren’t installed here to block the view of this space. The pergola glass roofing on the balcony and golden stickers that are pasted on it are quite interesting. This design feature ensures that the beauty of the glass isn’t marred in case leaves or other dirt particles fall on them.

Besides the porch built as part of the structure, there is a separate car porch in the front yard too. This car porch built using industrial work has a small office and a guest house above it.

Usman’s relatives and friends gather at his house whenever he is in Kerala for the holiday. So, the family wanted vast and spacious interiors that could accommodate the guests who often visit. This mega mansion that sprawls in 10250 sqft has car porches, formal and family living areas, dining space, prayer area, three kitchens, six bedrooms, an upper living area, home theater, balcony and a gym. Meanwhile, there is a beautiful garden, sitting space and a swimming pool in the aesthetically designed landscape.

Exquisite magrana white granite brought from Rajasthan has been paved on the floor. This unique marble is a rare item that is found in the mines. So, this marble is quite expensive too. Unlike other flooring materials, the magrana marbles wouldn’t absorb heat. They are extremely cool and are comfortable to walk on.

The formal living area has been arranged by ensuring enough privacy. The custom made furniture is elegant and amazingly matches the general theme of the house. The TV Unit, meanwhile, is arranged in the family living area. From here, one could enter the spacious dining area. The fabulous stairway is another highlight of the interiors. The unique design of the stairway that isn’t too steep is quite interesting. A combination of teak, mahogany, irul and venga or Indian kino wood has been mostly used for the timber works in the house. The stylish stairway has been amazingly carved in irul and Indian kino wood. Meanwhile, it has hand railings in toughened glass.

The home theater is set up in the upper floor where there is more ceiling height. Besides, a modern multi gym too has been arranged in this floor.

The mansion is mostly run on electricity that is produced by the solar panels that are installed on the roof. Meanwhile, the incinerator takes care of effective waste disposal. The rainwater that falls on the roof is collected in tanks through gutter pipes.

Usman and his family that consists of his wife and three children are thrilled that they could fulfill the dream of owning a palatial bungalow in their hometown. The owner would be returning to Gulf after a few days as a happy and satisfied man. He would then be eagerly waiting to come back again to the love and comfort of his spectacular abode.
