The fabulous blend of flat and slope roofs is incredible while the amazing colour combination of white and grey exudes elegance.

Building a regular house in a smaller plot is not an easy task at all. So, imagine constructing an elegant colonial-style abode in just 5 cents.

Nizar, an expatriate, and his family decided to take up the challenge and build their brand new house in 5 cents in Moonupeedika, Thrissur, Kerala. Unlike the usual flat - box style houses built in small plots, Nizar’s house has all the classic features of colonial architecture. Named Mohabbath which means love, this splendid abode celebrates smart designing with stunning features. The fabulous blend of flat and slope roofs is incredible while the amazing colour combination of white and grey exudes elegance. Meanwhile, the outer walls are plastered and have groves too. They are then highlighted with attractive texture paint.

Designed in 1850 sqft, this fabulous abode has a car porch, sit out, living and dining areas and a bedroom in the ground floor while there are two more bedrooms, upper living area, a multi-utility space and a balcony in the upper storey.

The car porch, which is very compact, has been built by paving polycarbonate glass on metal frame.

The custom made furniture pieces amazingly match the general theme of the house. Vitrified tiles have been paved on the floor in the common areas. Meanwhile, the sit out and stairway have granite flooring.

The wash area is arranged beneath the stairway to save space. The kitchen opens to the dining space. The serving counter that separates the kitchen and the dining area could be used as a breakfast table too. This feature allows Nizar’s wife to keep an eye on the kids while they are studying.

The modern kitchen dons the bright maroon colour theme. The cabinets are done in glossy mica laminates. The counter top, meanwhile, has been paved with white coloured granite called the ibis. These wouldn’t get stained easily and are durable too.

Nizar’s wife is interested in doing crafts as hobby. She had demanded a separate space where she could relax and peacefully indulge in her favourite hobby. So, a spot has been specially arranged for her in the multi utility space in the upper floor.

The kids’ room dons their favourite hues and patterns. Meanwhile, the master bedroom has been designed in bluish green texture theme. The bedrooms have attached bathrooms and in – built wardrobes too.

Despite leaving the legally bound set back, the house has been smartly built by including all the facilities and amenities demanded by the family.

The construction, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a budget of Rs 48 lakh. The family is happy that the construction was completed in just 9 months and they moved in December last year. Nizar too can’t wait for the holidays so that he could come to the warmth and love of his brand new house.
