Thomas and Anju had chosen a plot opposite their ancestral home in Athirampuzha in Kottayam, Kerala, to build their dream dwelling. It was a friend who told the couple about noted designer Shinto. Known for designing many beautiful homes across the state, Shinto took advantage of the 27 cents square plot that has an amazing road frontage.
Designed in 3508 sqft, this fabulous mansion has a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, prayer space, courtyard, patio, dining area, kitchen with a work area, four bedrooms, upper office and a balcony.
The car porch is built separately from the structure. Built in 400 sqft, the porch is spacious enough to park at least two vehicles. The front yard has been paved with natural stones and grass in alternate layers. Plants that require minimum care and maintenance have been included in the landscape and garden.
The exteriors have been designed in the dark rustic theme while the interiors are bright and pleasant. This contrasting theme is actually a surprise element in the house.
The entrance door opens to the formal living area which has been arranged by ensuring enough privacy. From here, one could enter the common hall which is designed in the open style. The family living area, dining area and the prayer space are arranged as part of this spacious hall.
An elegant couch set enhanced with red upholstery work and the cement textured wall behind it is the highlights of the family living area. The TV unit, meanwhile, is installed opposite this. A door close to this area opens to the backyard.
The family wanted their prayer area to exude positive vibes. So, it is arranged on a wall that has been separated using beautiful veneer panelling.
One could get to the garden through the foldable glass door beside the dining area. Moreover, cool breeze and pleasant sunshine enters the house if this door is opened.
The kitchen has been designed by arranging lots of storage spaces. Over head cupboards and lower cabinets line the kitchen wall. These are done in plywood with laminate finish. The counter top, meanwhile, is paved with nano white. Dark colored vitrified tiles are pasted on the splash back here.
The bedrooms are elegant and stand out for their unique color theme and design elements. There are three bedrooms in the ground floor while one bedroom is in the upper floor. The bath attached bedrooms have in – built wardrobes and separate dressing spaces too.
The short compound wall doesn’t block the fabulous view of the elevation from the road. The house shines against the twilight sky when the profile lights on the outer walls, garden and the compound walls are switched on. The family, meanwhile, is ecstatic that they got the house of their dreams.
