Spacious interiors of this renovated Kanjirapally house exude positive vibes

The elevation of the renovated house is inspired by star football player Christiano Ronaldo’s summer home.

Sayed Ahmad’s elegant abode at Kanjirappally in Kottayam district in Kerala hardly looks like it is more than four decades old. Time had begun taking a toll on the structure of the old house that had congested spaces, lack of ample supply of natural light and air and had leaking walls and roof too. Sayed and his family decided to give their house a modern makeover to host the wedding of their son. Interestingly, the elevation of the renovated house is inspired by star football player Christiano Ronaldo’s summer home.

The outer walls that were severely damaged have been re plastered and are enhanced with cement groves to add texture. This is then topped with serene white hue. Meanwhile, the other side is highlighted with beautiful stone cladding. These features transformed the outer look of the house, making it chic and stylish. The interiors have been rearranged to make it more spacious and vaster. Only a limited area has been newly added to the structure. Designed in 2900 sqft, this fabulous abode has a car porch, sit out, formal and family living areas, dining area, kitchen with work area and four bedrooms.

Changes

The redundant walls in the congested spaces were pulled down to transform it into open areas. A passage is what connects the spaces in the house. This corridor, meanwhile, is a bit raised from the floor level. The old car porch has been turned into a formal living area. A TV unit too is separated here. Meanwhile, the new mini car porch is built close to the sit out. Space has been reserved here to construct an industrial porch, if required, in the future.

A wall painted with light orange textured paint is the highlight in the formal living area. The huge metal clock hung on this wall is a stunning show piece that instantly grabs attention. Meanwhile, the gypsum false ceiling and the matching profile lights add an enchanting ambience to the interior spaces. The old flooring has been completely replaced with white colored vitrified tiles. This makes the interiors look brighter and enchanting too. The semi partition that separates the dining area is made using bamboo, adding a rustic charm to the area.

The master bedroom has been made spacious by adding a part of the old living area. The bath attached bedrooms have wardrobes for storage and separate dressing spaces too.

The old work area has been attached to make the kitchen spacious and more functional. The modular set up and the stylish cupboards add a modern twist to the kitchen. Another work area and a store room are the new additions here.

The sitting area outside, which is decorated with an eye catching vertical garden, is accessible from the dining area.

The old wiring and plumbing works were damaged by termites. So, these have been completely replaced with latest and high quality materials. Sayed says that the house too was adorned like a new bride in just six months to welcome the guests for his son’s wedding.
