Contemporary design leaves this Thalassery house in 7 cents stunning

The exteriors don the contemporary box shape which is chic and stylish.

Usman, an expatriate, is thrilled to share his experience of building his dream abode, by overcoming the spatial challenges posed by a 7 cents plot in his hometown in Thalassery, Kannur in Kerala.

The family didn’t shy away from making the demand that the interiors should look and feel spacious even though the house stands on a smaller plot. Besides, they wanted the interiors to receive ample amount of sunshine and cool air and also wished to enjoy privacy too. The architect deserves credit for designing such a fabulous abode by catering to the demands and likes of the family. The exteriors don the contemporary box shape which is chic and stylish. The classy shera boards add the wooden highlights to break the monotony of the plain white hue. This also gives the feel of an elegant and costly wooden cladding element.

Designed in 2800 sqft, this amazing abode has a car porch, sit out, formal and family living areas, dining area, kitchen with work area, five bedrooms, balcony and an open terrace.

The industrial car porch is built just beside the structure to save space. The sit out that has a double height ceiling is a unique feature. The glass jali here is a splendid addition that oozes classy elegance.

The furnishing boasts of the regal charm of the teak wood. The stairway that is entirely carved in teak wood is truly majestic. Meanwhile, the hand railings feature toughened glass too. The flooring is mostly done using vitrified tiles.

The dining hall with double height ceiling is the highlight of the interiors. A folding glass door here connects this space to the adjacent courtyard. The warm air from inside the house would be pushed out if this door is opened, keeping the spaces cooler. Besides, the upper part of the wall is lined with glass windows which bring in natural sun shine to light up the interiors.

A small passage smartly hides the bedroom from the common areas, thereby ensuring privacy. The wall here is highlighted with texture paint that has the finish of laterite stones. There are three bedrooms in the ground floor while two are in the upper storey. Each bedroom has been designed in unique themes. Interestingly, one of the bedrooms has been furnished in the theme of a maniyara (wedding chamber) as the couple had recently celebrated the wedding of their elder daughter. Highlighter hues adorn the headboards of the cots and are decorated with eye catching resin cladding too. The bath attached bedrooms have in – built wardrobes for storage and separate dressing spaces.

The kitchen cupboards are done in multi wood finish. The counter top, meanwhile, has been paved with Korean stone. An adjacent work area completes the kitchen space.

The family is enjoying every moment in their brand new house that has all the modern amenities arranged in a smaller plot.
