Comfort, elegance redefined in this single-storey Kothamangalam house

Kothamangalam house
The tall walls of the spacious abode lend the structure the grandeur of a duplex.

Thankachan hailing from Kothamangalam, Kerala asked his architects to design a single-storey house incorporating maximum facilities in his 7.5 cents of land, and in a few months' time he was happy to see his dream home modeled in contemporary flat-box elevation come true.

The snazzy exterior is made interesting with grooves running horizontally on a texture-painted wall. The tall walls pretend to give the structure the grandeur of a duplex. Car porch, sit-out, living area, dining area, kitchen work area, and three bedrooms amicably fit into the 1,680 sqft house modeled on open-plan theme that played a crucial role in enhancing a spacious feel of the interior.

The floors are covered with vitrified tiles, while the furnishings and paneling work reflects the elegance of teak wood. The design makes intelligent use of lighting. Instead of using false ceiling, spots light points were fixed at the roof at the time of concreting itself, which helped in bringing down the overall expense in construction.

Inside the house, the living room integrates with a dining-cum-open hall, where you can’t refuse to fix your eyes on the spectacular highlighter wall at one end. The wall explores the creativity of rainforest marble, purchased at Rs 300 for one square foot, giving a stunning look to the area. Moreover, the pergola glass ceiling above makes it convenient for a perfect crossover to a sitting space in the future.

The kitchen is designed with an open dining space linked to the TV unit so as to have the luxury of watching television programmes while cooking and dining.

Not an inch in the 7.5 cent plot is wasted. The remaining space available after building the house has been creatively used to set up a small vegetable and fruit garden. The construction cost fits into the budget of Rs 50 lakh, while an additional amount was spent to purchase all pieces of furniture.
