Multiple slanted roofs elevates aesthetics of this Malappuram house

Athavanadu in Malappuram district of Kerala that is known for its rustic charm is dotted by a handful of traditional Kerala houses. But of late, the quaint Konalloor hamlet in the region is home to a contemporary house sporting sloped multiple roofs. These roofs, layered with shingles, in varying heights have indeed doubled the beauty of Shameer's newly built home fitted in a spectacular landscape. The light colour tone used on the outer walls perfects the slick factor of the facade.

The double-height wall on one side is adorned by stone claddings. The house owner has taken the trouble to retain as many trees as possible to make the courtyard gorgeously green against the backdrop of natural stone tiles and grass. Another key attraction in the lawn is a well-designed concrete deck around a neatly trimmed mango tree that would offer a perfect retreating space in the garden.

On the ground floor sports a car porch, sit-out, living room, dining area, inner courtyard, two bedrooms, kitchen and work area, while on the first floor there is a bedroom, home theatre, upper living area and a balcony. Together they make up 2,970 square feet.

The interior decor follow the white-wooden theme to bring in an air of warmth and cheerful atmosphere. The main entrance opens directly to the double height formal living space that houses the TV unit and customised furniture, which get their due prominence by pendant lamps. The flooring is a mix of Italian marbles and wooden tiles.

The nano white top of dining table and white cushioned chairs accentuate the overall colour theme. A wooden tiled narrow passage from the dining area leads to the inner courtyard, situated nearby.

An interesting segment on the first floor is the open space kids room where children can recline on the bunk beds with concealed storage facility and get themselves entertained from home theatre with Dolby facility. This space can easily double up as a bedroom if there are more guests.

The contemporary white decor theme is reflected in the kitchen too. Nano white marble counter top adds to sophistication of the cooking area which has inbuilt facility to accommodate referigerator, oven, washing machine etc, apart from a breakfast counter. The cupboards are made of multiwood and mica.

Last but not the least, the creative use of exterior lighting with the help of LED fixtures undoubtedly makes the abode a cut above the rest. As dusk sets in the aesthetics of the house and its landscape rises to unprecedented level.
