Nature an unavoidable part of this elegant and functional house in Kannur

The exteriors feature the chic contemporary fusion style.

Rafeeq, an expatriate, is thrilled to show around his brand new house at his hometown in Pazhayangadi in Kannur district in Kerala. He had bought a plot on the road side and dismantled the old house that had stood there before building his dream dwelling. The family wanted to retain a gooseberry tree and a well that never runs dry that stood right in the middle of the plot. So, it was quite a challenge for the designers to draw the plan by saving the tree and the well which still is an amazing source of clean water.

The exteriors feature the chic contemporary fusion style. The sloped roof has been paved with mud tiles. Interestingly, the roof has been built as a single unit in double height. Meanwhile, the upper storey has been arranged as a mezzanine floor. This makes the interiors extremely vaster and ensures amazing cross ventilation too.

The gooseberry tree, with its fresh foliage brushing the side of the house, is a beautiful sight. A side courtyard has been built to block the view of the well. This courtyard is secured with GI grille and glass ceiling. A comfortable sitting space too has been arranged here. The drive way is paved with natural stones. The wooden tile cladding on the compound wall and in the sit out adds a classy look to the exteriors.

Designed in 3200 sqft, this spectacular house has a car porch, sit out, formal and family living areas, dining space, courtyard, kitchen with a work area, four bedrooms, upper living area and a balcony.

The formal living area has been arranged by ensuring enough privacy. A sofa unit decorated with elegant brown upholstery work is a classy addition in the living area. Besides, a wall here is highlighted with eye catching paneling. Meanwhile, the ladies sitting space, dining area and the pantry kitchen are arranged as part of the spacious hall. Interestingly, a splendid display shelf is what separates the dining area and the ladies sitting space.

The dining area looks and feels vaster as it has a double height ceiling. The wall here is lined with full length windows which bring in pleasant sunshine to illuminate the areas. The beautiful dining table set is the most attractive feature here. The wooden table has chairs in classy olive green hue which adds a pop of color. The chandelier on the ceiling is a fabulous designer piece that grabs instant attention.

The design of the stairway is quite interesting. The floating style stairway has hand railings in the evergreen combination of wood and toughened glass. The wall beside the stairway too is lined with windows which light up the interiors with natural sunshine.

The island kitchen is modern and extremely functional. The counter in the middle acts as a breakfast table too.

Both the floors have two bedrooms each. The cots in these rooms are designed in the floating style. The headboard, meanwhile, is decorated with resin cladding. The bath attached bedrooms have in – built wardrobes for storage.

This plot is a few feet above the road level. The structure is built without altering the natural layout of the plot. The family has shown their commitment towards nature by retaining the tree and the well in the plot. The nature, meanwhile, has rewarded them by ensuring a pleasant and alluring ambience inside the house.
