Erumely house celebrates the nuances of traditional architecture

Erumeli house
Natural stones have been paved on the yard, directly in front of the sit-out, while pebbles have been used in the remaining area.

Prasad and Sindhu who are settled in Dubai had always wished to build their dream abode at their hometown in Erumely in Kerala. The family has been fascinated by the traditional architectural style which boasts of elaborate courtyards and a quaint thulasi thara (platform where Holy basil is grown). Interestingly, the space for the construction of the new house was determined by retaining the old house that had already stood on the plot. Meanwhile, the new house is built on the northern side, facing the main road.

Prasad had entrusted his former classmate and close friend Srikanth Pangappad to design his dream dwelling. Srikanth, meanwhile, did an amazing job by designing a fabulous abode that suits the interests and taste of the family members. The long verandah, the classy sit-out and the traditional thulasi thara grant an enchanting aura to the exteriors. Natural stones have been paved on the yard, directly in front of the sit-out, while pebbles have been used in the remaining area.

The elegance of the inner courtyard could be seen as soon as the entrance door is opened. This makes sure that there is excellent air circulation inside the house. Besides, the sunlight that comes in through the courtyard naturally illuminates the spaces.

The formal and family living areas and the dining hall are all part of the vast common area where the courtyard is located, making it the central point in the house. The pergola roof of the courtyard is a highlight which lets lots of natural sunshine and cool breeze into the house.

The three bedrooms are spacious and have all the modern facilities. The bath attached bedrooms have separate dressing areas too. The quaint balcony beside the family living area is a unique spot from where the incredible nature of the surroundings could be enjoyed.

The open kitchen which is designed in the north – east side of the house is just beside the dining area. Interestingly, the kitchen becomes a space of comfort where the family can gather to enjoy delicious meals while having great conversations. The spacious work area and a store room are the highlights of the elaborate kitchen space.

A stair case which leads to the flat roof has been built in the utility room cum wash area that is right beside the dining hall.

Built in 2300 sqft, this marvelously designed house stands out for its splendid cross ventilation and natural lighting that gives a pleasant ambience to the inner spaces. Moreover, this house vouches for the spectacular and unique design techniques of the traditional architectural. The guests who visit the family often cannot hide their amazement at such mesmerizing features and amenities. Though the family had to wait for over a year to move into their dream dwelling, owing to the pandemic situation, they say that it was worth the wait as they are elated and proud that their brand new house has turned out just as they had imagined.
