Babu Alias’ brand new house at Kothamangalam in Kerala is a spectacular abode which finely blends the grand elegance of colonial architecture with modern amenities. Interestingly, the elaborately designed landscape plays a pivotal role in highlighting the unique features of the house. Most of the area in the 24 cents land has been turned into visually pleasing landscape and garden.
The family preferred a single storey house as they believe that it would ensure amazing communication and bonding between the family members. However, the stylish roof in multiple layers make the house look like a double storey one from outside. The GI truss has been installed on the flat roof and is then paved with clay tiles. The space between the roof and the high truss roof acts as an attic area. Moreover, this feature helps in reducing the heat inside the house, making the interiors cooler and pleasant.

The entrance door opens to a foyer which then leads to the interiors of the house. The formal living area has glass sliding doors on both sides. One of them opens to the beautiful courtyard while the other door leads to the buffer zone which is adorned with exotic bamboo plants. The guests who are hosted at the formal living area are treated to some mesmerizing views of greenery on both sides. Meanwhile, the custom made furniture pieces in elegant blue color are the highlight of the family living area. There is an outer patio just beside this area. Vitrified tiles have been paved on the floor in this house. Meanwhile, granite has been used for flooring in the sit out.
The courtyard inside the house instantly draws attention for its double height ceiling and splendid ambience. The natural brick cladding on the wall adds a rustic charm to the area. Besides, this area has been turned into a quaint spot of greenery with beautiful indoor plants.
The custom made dining table can easily accommodate up to six guests. The blue colored cushions on the chairs break the monotony of the lighter shades of hues in the rest of the area. A simple crockery unit completes the dining area. Besides the open kitchen, there is a side kitchen and an adjacent work area too.
The bedrooms are comfortable and have lots of wardrobes and cupboards for storage. Full length wardrobes, study table and attached bathrooms are some of the facilities that are arranged in the bedrooms.
