In the middle of bustling Kakkanad stands this serene house exuding charm

Kakkanad house
The spacious front yard and landscape has been elaborately designed as the house stands in a 45 cents land.

This beautiful abode near Kakkanad, which is touted as the IT hub of Kochi, in Kerala is hardly disturbed by the hustle and bustle of the vibrant city. Interestingly, the calmness that one enjoys in this house is in stark contrast with the noisy streets of the city outside. A busy main road runs on the south side of the plot. So, the house has been designed to face the east direction.

The slope roof in multiple layers gives a traditional charm to the elevation. Interestingly, the walls have been built using Porotherm blocks that effectively reduce heat inside the house. After building a flat roof, GI truss roof has been installed over it. This is then paved with traditional mud tiles. Even though the house is single storey, the GI truss roof ensures the facilities of a double storey house. The truss area could be used as a multi utility area. Moreover, this feature ensures that the interiors have a pleasant atmosphere as the sunlight doesn’t fall directly over the roof.

The spacious front yard and landscape has been elaborately designed as the house stands in a 45 cents land. Tandoor stones and grass are paved in alternate layers in the front yard, adding a touch of sophistication. The car porch, meanwhile, is designed separately in the detached style. With mud tiles paved on GI frame, the car porch is simple yet blends well with the landscape.

The interiors boast of all the modern amenities and classy furnishings. Designed in 2952 sqft, this fabulous abode has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, and courtyard, kitchen with a work area, four bedrooms and utility space too. The interiors are designed in the semi-open style which allows easy communication between the spaces. Moreover, the open spaces make the house looks and feel vaster too.

The entrance door opens to the elegantly furnished formal living area. Custom made furniture that matches the general theme of the house is the highlight of this area. A prayer area too has been separated here. The family living area, meanwhile, is arranged beneath the stairway, in an attempt to make the interiors space efficient. A TV unit too has been arranged here. The grand elegance of Jaisalmer stones and terracotta tiles makes the flooring stand out. The stairway is in double height, making this area look spacious. The classic combination of wood and glass adds a special charm to the stairway.

The spacious dining hall and the adjacent courtyard are the real soul of this house. From the dining area, one could get to the patio and the greenery outside through a sliding glass door. A table and bench furniture set has been arranged in the patio, which has already become the family’s favorite spot in the house.

The wall highlighted with laterite stone cladding in the courtyard area is an eye catching feature. The glass ceiling here welcomes golden rays of sunshine into the house. Moreover, metal grille has been installed here as an additional safety feature. The courtyard floor is paved with shiny pebbles. Besides, the beautiful indoor plants add a hint of greenery too. The in – built half wall that separates the courtyard and the dining area could also be used as a sitting space.

The family grows a small vegetable patch and a fruit orchard in the spacious plot. Even though the house is located in the middle of a vibrant city, the calm atmosphere and the scintillating nature grants a special feeling. The guests too say that they feel as if they have entered a magical world of tranquility as soon as they cross the gate into the plot.
