Abbas’ brand new abode at Ramanattukara in Kozhikode is the perfect example of a beautiful house with all the essential amenities that is built on a moderate budget. The house that draws attention for its space efficiency has been designed by noted architect Hidayath, who is a family friend. The family was impressed by the designer’s own budget friendly house that was featured on the Homestyle section, for its amazing ambience and excellent facilities.
The structure stands in 4 cents of the 8 cents plot. The elevation features a flat–box style to overcome the spatial challenges of a smaller plot. Cement plaster groves have been installed on the outer walls and are then painted with a coat of primer. Besides, there are lots of air vents too on the walls that ensure air ventilation inside the house.
Designed in 1255 sqft, this fabulous abode has a sit-out, living area, dining space, kitchen and three bedrooms. The flat box structure allows the family to build an additional floor, if required, in the future.
The serene charm of white hue dons both the interiors and exteriors of the house. This makes the spaces look vaster too. White-coloured vitrified tiles have been paved on the floor in most areas. A strip of floor area that is paved with wooden finished tiles, from the entrance door until the opposite wall is an interesting design feature.
The quaint sit-out leads to an open hall where the living and dining areas have been arranged. Most of the furniture pieces have been reused from the family’s old house. The stairway that has wooden plank steps on GI structure is simple yet elegant. The wash area, meanwhile, has been arranged beneath the stairway. There is a quaint family living area close to the dining space. The simple dining table with glass top has bench on one side.
The bedrooms are simple and have all the facilities. Two bedrooms are bath attached while there is one common bathroom too.
The most amazing fact is that the construction of this beautiful house could be completed on a pocket friendly budget of Rs 19 lakh. Rs 1500 per square feet were spent as construction charges. This is indeed impressive as the construction charges are Rs 2000 per square feet at most places. The family is joyous that they got the house of their dreams without burning a hole in their pocket.
Among the various factors that helped in keeping a check on the expenses, limiting the use of timber played a pivotal role. Aluminum fabrication has been done on the windows. Moderately priced tiles that cost Rs 45 per square feet have been used for flooring. False ceiling and paneling have been avoided. The kitchen cabinets too are done in aluminum fabrication. Coats of white primer, without layering it with putty, have been used to paint the interior and exterior walls.
