Navas’ elegant house that stands in a 10 cents plot in Thondayad in Kozhikode district in Kerala stands out for its stylish designs and fabulous amenities. However, it is the serene pond in front of the house that attracts instant attention. The family had owned the land adjoining the structure. These were later sold as small plots. But the owner didn’t have the heart to fill in the pond and decided to build a house in this plot. The house has been amazingly designed to open to the serene view of the pond.
The elevation features a chic blend of tropical and contemporary architectural styles. The roof is cement plastered and is then paved with tiles. Designed in 2000 sqft, this fabulous abode has a sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen with a work area, three bedrooms, upper living area and balcony. The laterite stone claddings on the sit-out and the outer walls add a rustic charm to the structure. The compound wall too is built using laterite stones and isn’t plastered.
The custom-made furniture pieces are mostly done in plywood with a veneer finish. Meanwhile, elegant marble has been paved on the floor in this house. Gypsum false ceiling and the LED light fittings add a spectacular ambience to the interiors.
A majestic stairway, perfectly carved in wood, is the highlight of the interiors. A crockery shelf has been arranged beneath this stairway which acts as a designer element too. Besides, there is also a bay window here. The wooden dining table is simple and can easily accommodate up to eight guests.
There is one bedroom in the ground floor and two in the upper storey. The well-furnished bedrooms have attached bathrooms and wardrobes too.
The stairway leads to a spacious upper living area. A TV unit too has been arranged here. The wooden ceiling is an interesting feature that exudes classy vibes. The glass skylight, meanwhile, fills this area with natural sunshine.
The house has two balconies from where one could enjoy the enchanting beauty of the pond. The cool breeze that flows in from the pond keeps the interiors pleasant and comfortable. The family is proud that they had decided to retain the pond, despite the plot being just 10 cents. Now, their friends are eager to visit the family as they love enjoying the splendid views of the pond.
