This fusion house in Thrissur is cost-effective and boasts of splendid amenities

Sijo wanted his brand new house at Anjoor near Kunnamkulam in Thrissur to exude the classy elegance of traditional architecture. The house that has an area of 1850 sqft stands in a 5 cents rectangular plot. This amazing abode has been designed to enjoy the overwhelming natural beauty of the quiet countryside. The lush green fields and the beautiful canals look straight out of an impressionist painting. The fabulous blend of the traditional exteriors and the minimal interiors designed in the contemporary style makes this house stand out.

A column beam foundation has been built as the plot is a marshy land. Meanwhile, the walls are built using laterite stones. The ground floor has been concrete proofed. Mangalore tiles are paved on the truss work that is installed above the roof. The ceiling done using V board wouldn’t be affected by moisture or dampness.

An open sit out with a spacious and long verandah is an interesting feature. The double storey house boasts of all the modern amenities. Living and dining areas, a main kitchen and a working kitchen, work area and two bath attached bedrooms are arranged in the ground floor. Meanwhile, there is one more bath attached bedroom, an upper living area and a balcony in the upper floor.

A semi partition is what separates the living and the dining areas. Interestingly, this partition acts as a multipurpose area too. A TV unit and a shelf have been included here.

The simple stairway is right beside the dining area. The wash area, meanwhile, has been arranged beneath the stairway to save space. The dining area is accessible from everywhere in the house. The bedrooms are simple and give importance to comfort and facilities.

Utility and space efficiency are the highlights of the modern kitchen. The cabinets are done in marine plywood and mica. The counter top, meanwhile, has been paved with granite. The purple cabinets amazingly complement the classy dado tiles that are pasted on the backsplash. Cabinets are installed in the second kitchen and the work area too to ensure lots of storage space.

The doors are windows are made using sturdy anjili (artocarpus hirsutus or wild jack) wood. The interiors are furnished elegantly and do not feature any gimmicky designs or décor. The walls don the lighter shades of hues that are pleasant to the eyes. The gypsum false ceiling is enhanced with marine plywood and mica to give it a chic look.

In some areas, attractive wall papers have been used to highlight the walls. The classy furnishing in the interiors dons a wooden touch finish to match the elegant traditional style of the elevation.
