This house in Aluva is an enchanting abode of green courtyards

The area of just the courtyards of the house comes up to 2100 sqft.

The average area of a regular house in Kerala is around 2000 sqft. However, the area of just the courtyards in Abdul Nazar’s mesmerizing home in Aluva comes up to 2100 sqft. With a side courtyard, external courtyard, internal courtyard and centre courtyard, this amazing abode looks like a ‘showroom’ of beautiful courtyards.

The owner wanted a single-storey house without compromising on the modern amenities and comfortable spaces. Meanwhile, the family wished for lots of green spaces and privacy too where it is required. So, fabulous courtyards have been designed adjacent to most areas in the house.

Designed in 6295 sqft, this ‘green’ mansion has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, courtyards, five bedrooms, kitchen with work area, study area and prayer space.

Each area in the house has ceilings of different heights. This is a unique feature that grants a modern vibe to the house. The common areas are designed in double-height while the glass ceiling is the highlight of the courtyards. Meanwhile, the wooden paneling on the slanted ceiling in some areas is eye-catching.

The family living area, dining space and a courtyard have been arranged as part of the incredibly spacious hall. This area makes the interiors look and feel vaster. From the family living area, one could easily get to the beautiful patio.

The interiors are elegantly furnished using teak wood that exudes an ambience of grandeur and panache. A blend of stones and leather finished granite has been used for flooring in this splendid home. Interestingly, lots of trellis frames have been used here to grow plants and vines too.

The bedrooms are arranged in the private zone. All the bedrooms have adjacent courtyards too. Sliding glass doors are what connect the bedrooms to these amazing green spaces. Interestingly, grilles haven’t been installed on these glass windows and doors, so that the enchanting charm of the courtyards could be enjoyed in all its glory. Instead, wire meshes have been used here.

The kitchen cabinets are done in lacquered glass finish. Meanwhile, Korean stone has been paved on the countertop.

Even though the house is single-storey, the stricture has been built in a way that allows the family to build an additional floor, if required, in the future. The spacious terrace is the perfect spot where family gatherings could be hosted. As there are lots of open spaces and courtyards, there is no need to switch on the light during the daytime. Meanwhile, the family vouches for the positive vibes that the green courtyards exude. Moreover, these plants and greenery make the interior spaces cool by reducing the heat inside the house.
