This single-storey Muvattupuzha house is the perfect gift from a son to his parents

The sloped roof that is paved with mud tiles makes the house look like a traditional Kerala house.

Sunil Kumar hails from a family of farmers based in Muvattupuzha. He, meanwhile, is settled in Aluva to run his business. Sunil has honoured his parents by gifting a beautiful abode in their hometown. The single-storey house exudes the elegant charm of traditional architecture. The sloped roof that is paved with mud tiles makes the house look like a traditional Kerala house. Moreover, Sunil wanted simple features and minimal furnishing that makes maintenance easier for his aged parents.

The truss roof has been paved above the flat roof of the structure. Old mud tiles that aren’t even polished have been used to grant that old-world charm. Besides, the area between the roof and the truss could be used as a utility space. So, the family can enjoy the facilities of a two-storey structure even though the house has just one floor. Moreover, the vacuum space between the two roofs helps in lowering the temperature inside the house, making the areas cooler and pleasant.

Designed in 1760 sqft, this amazing abode has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, pooja space, kitchen with a work area and three bath attached bedrooms.

The entrance door opens to a foyer which then leads to the formal living area. This area has been designed by ensuring enough privacy. The wall made in brass and glass, that acts as a semi partition, is an attractive feature here.

The family living area and the dining area are arranged as part of the spacious hall. Meanwhile, the TV unit is arranged in the family living space. The photo wall behind the couch here is an amazing reminder of the values that they share as a family. Interestingly, framed pictures of five generations of family members are hung on this wall.

Granite has been paved on the floor in this house. The custom-made furniture perfectly suits the spaces. The minimal gypsum false ceiling and the matching LED light fitting grant a charming ambience to the interiors. Theme lighting which could be adjusted to the ‘day-neutral and warm’ tones is an interesting feature.

The prayer area has been designed by disguising the distribution board on the wall. Meanwhile, the green courtyard close to the pooja space is a spectacular addition. The courtyard wall is highlighted with terracotta tile cladding.

The bath attached bedrooms are elegantly furnished. Meanwhile, two bedrooms have separate dressing spaces too.

The construction of this house could be completed on a moderate budget of Rs 40 lakh. Sunil says that his parents are happy and proud that they have moved into their brand new house.
