Renish, an expatriate, had always dreamed to build a house of his own at his hometown in the countryside of Desam near Aluva. His brand – new house that stands in 12 cents, on the banks of the Periyar River, is a modern dwelling that exudes elegance. The elevation features a fabulous mix of interesting geometric patterns. Interestingly, the house has been constructed in the semi – prefab style.
Designed in 3000 sqft, this amazing abode has a car porch, sit out, living and dining areas, courtyard, kitchen with a work area and two bedrooms in the ground floor. Meanwhile, there is bedroom, upper living area, utility area and a garden terrace in the upper floor.
The vast and spacious interiors is the highlight of this house. There is an outer patio beside the living area and an open courtyard adjacent to the dining space. The elegantly furnished formal living area has a double height ceiling, making it look and feel spacious. The roofing works in cement finish add a rustic charm to this area. Meanwhile, the gypsum false ceiling in the double height dining area too is classy.
Interestingly, unique techniques, that aren’t usually seen in the houses in Kerala, are used here to ensure cross ventilation and uninterrupted flow of natural air and sunshine. For instance, an industrial revolving ventilator that functions with the help of wind energy has been installed near the stair area to push out hot air.
Folding doors in the dining area open to the beautiful courtyard where the vertical pergolas and the skylight make it a well-lit area. This quaint spot decorated with indoor plants has become the family’s favourite corner too.
The modern kitchen has cabinets done in marine ply with glossy laminate finish. Meanwhile, granite has been paved on the counter top.
The bedrooms are furnished minimally as the family lives here only during the holidays. However, all the bedrooms are bath attached and have in – built wardrobes for storage. The classic bay windows add an admirable grace to the bedrooms.
