This sustainable and beautiful Thrissur house built in Rs 10 lakhs is inspiring

Abdul Nazar’s brand new house at Vallathol Nagar in Thrissur district is a fabulous example of a beautiful and cosy home that boasts of all the modern amenities, built on an extremely pocket friendly budget. It is quite unbelievable that the construction of this double storey house was completed on a meagre budget of Rs 10 lakh. Besides, the compound wall was built for just Rs 10,000 and a separate car porch for Rs 5000. Interestingly, the house was constructed as a wedding gift for his son. The house stands in 5 cents by dividing a 10 cents plot.

Nazar who travels quite a lot for business purposes has tried to adopt the unique styles and features that he had seen in many countries in his own house. However, he was able to reduce the expenses by relying on alternate building materials. The use of concrete and timber is limited in this house; instead, GI and V Boards have been mostly used. Meanwhile, the walls are built using solid cement blocks for sturdiness. The outer walls aren’t cement plastered but painted after water proofing.

This quaint house of just 542 sqft has a living area, dining cum kitchen and two bedrooms with attached bathrooms. There is a bedroom and an attached bathroom in the upper storey.

The minimal car porch has been built by paving aluminium sheet on GI pillars. This was constructed using the remaining building materials from the house. The compound wall is unique and has been inspired from the French style fences. The V board wall has tiny green spots of artificial grass. Meanwhile, columns filled with mettles are built to add highlights. The wire mesh fencing on one side of the compound wall is an interesting feature. Vines have been allowed to grow on these to form a beautiful wall of pleasant greenery.

Low-cost furniture made by fixing soft cushions on metal frames have been used in the living area. The interior walls pasted with tiles look exotic and has a classy sheen. Interestingly, slightly broken or damaged tiles were purchased, on low cost, from the shops to paste on the walls. Nazar says that it is profitable compared to the expenses of painting and plastering the walls. Moreover, repainting or retouching in the future could be avoided.

A simple bench and desk in the kitchen is used as the dining unit, making the interiors extremely space efficient. Meanwhile, the staircase is compact and easily fits in the hall. Interestingly, this foldable staircase can be folded and kept close to the wall after use.

The bedroom in the upper storey is spacious. LED light fittings illuminate the ceiling. Meanwhile, the V board walls look classy. Synthetic mat has been paved on the floor instead of usual flooring works.

Nazar says that anyone could build such amazing utility homes by planning wisely.
