Noted architect L Gopakumar, who has designed beautiful abodes across Kerala is excited to show around his own dream dwelling that he has recently built at his hometown in Kochi. Lack of space is the most common disadvantage one faces while designing a house in a mega city like Kochi. Gopakumar wanted to break stereotypes to design a unique abode that instantly attracts attention.
The 6.23 cents plot had a slight slant. However, he added a slanting designer element on the elevation to complement the unique layout of the plot. The structure had to be built in a smaller space after leaving the legal setback. The small front yard has been aesthetically designed with lush lawns and a splendid garden. Meanwhile, the sliding gate in metal finish is space efficient. Interestingly, up to two vehicles could be parked in the yard.

Designed in 2944 sqft, this amazing abode has a sit out, formal and family living area, dining space, kitchen with a work area, four bedrooms, upper living area and a balcony.
The common areas have been designed in the semi open style. A wall in the formal living area has been turned into a chic curio shelf using veneer rafter in order to ensure privacy.
The family living area and the dining area are part of the spacious open hall. Meanwhile, the wash area, a crockery shelf and a prayer space too have been separated on the wall beside the dining area.
The classy elegance of minimalism is the highlight of the interiors. The spaces aren’t filled with over the top designer elements or jarring décor. The flooring done using nano white slabs in the formal and family living areas and the dining space add a fabulous charm. Moreover, it easy to maintain and clean the non – slippery floor. These tiles have the perfect finish and are long lasting too.
The modular kitchen boasts of all the modern facilities. The cabinets are done in planilaque glass and laminate finish. The counter top, meanwhile, has been paved with nano white.
The bedrooms are spacious and well furnished. These comfortable bedrooms have attached bathrooms, wardrobes for storage and separate dressing spaces here.
The staircase leads to an upper living area. A library and a working space have been arranged here.
The family has tried to include lots of eco friendly features even though the house stands in a small plot. The rainwater that falls on the roof is stored in a tank and is used for well recharging. Besides, the owner has plans to install solar panels to generate clean electricity. Moreover, there are CCTV cameras installed at the vital spots for security.
