The Buddha theme, which is seen the facade is followed in the interiors too.

Gopakumar and Asha, both government employees, are excited to share their experiences of building their brand-new house in Ulloor, Thiruvananthapuram. They had been living in rented houses for years. So, it was their long-cherished dream to build a house of their own. The couple purchased 5 cents plot in Thiruvananthapuram as they wanted to live close to the place they work. However, the plot was termed as ‘wetland’ in the documents. So, it was legally changed to ‘dryland’ before the construction began.

Pile foundation was done as the soil here was loose and not sturdy enough. This made the expenses shoot a bit in the initial phase of the construction.

The family wanted the interiors to be open with an abundant supply of natural light and air. The interiors have been designed as open spaces that allow excellent communication too.

This fabulous abode designed in 2084 sqft has a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, one bedroom and kitchen with a work area on the ground floor. Meanwhile, the upper floor has three bedrooms and a multi-utility space. The family had initially planned to build a house of 1700 sqft. Later, a part of the open terrace was separated into a multi-utility area.

Interestingly, the car porch is spacious enough to accommodate two vehicles. A Buddha figurine and a mini garden is arranged in the front yard. The Buddha theme is followed in the interiors too.

The family living area, dining space and the staircase are arranged as part of the spacious open hall. Meanwhile, the formal living area is separated to ensure enough privacy. The ready-made furniture pieces perfectly fit the spaces.

The double-height wall beside the staircase is highlighted with attractive stone cladding. The area beneath the stairway has been turned into a spectacular green space, granting a serene ambience to the interiors. A hanging cot too has been added here to complete the look.

There is a skylight in the double-height ceiling above the stairway, bringing oodles of golden sunshine into the house. A sheet with CNC cutting has been paved here to add a designer effect to the sunshine.

The flooring has been done in vitrified tiles that ensures a clean look to the interiors.

The kitchen cabinets are done in multi-wood with marine ply finish. The countertop, meanwhile, has been paved with granite. An adjacent work area completes the kitchen space.

The bedrooms are beautifully furnished and do not feel congested. The bath-attached bedrooms have wardrobes and separate dressing spaces too. One of the bedrooms in the upper floor opens to the balcony.

As the interiors are filled with lots of cool breeze and sunshine, there is no need to switch on the lights and fan during the daytime. The family’s friends and relatives compliment them by saying that their dream abode hardly looks like it has been built in just 5 cents.
