Elegant Thrissur house blends traditional and modern features

The front yard isn’t too spacious; instead, the gate opens directly into the car porch.

This beautiful house named ‘Aham’ at Chittatukara in Thrissur, Kerala perfectly captures the incredible soul of the countryside while offering some modern luxuries too. It was Mahesh and Aswini’s dream to build a house that does justice to the famed traditional architecture of Kerala. The slanting roof in multiple layers is paved with mud roofing tiles to add that traditional charm. Meanwhile, the open central courtyard is a unique element that defines the elegance of the elevation.

The interiors have lots of open spaces that receive cool breeze and sunshine in abundance. Instead of arranging all the spaces in the open hall, multiple corridors connect the areas in this house.

Designed in 2800 sqft, this mesmerizing abode has a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, courtyard, kitchen with an adjacent work area and two bedrooms in the ground floor. Meanwhile, the upper floor has two more bedrooms, an upper living area and a balcony.

The family calls the central courtyard the soul of the house. It is a haven of greenery that grants a serene ambience to the house. Interestingly, the corridors around this courtyard connect to the interior spaces.

The front yard isn’t too spacious; instead, the gate opens directly into the car porch. A quaint patch of greenery has been arranged here too. Besides, there is a water body between the boundary wall and the small sit out. The champak plant here fills the air with its sweet fragrance.

The interiors exude the classy elegance of minimalism. The spaces aren’t stuffed with furniture or gaudy décor. The interiors mostly don the classic colour combination of white and grey.

The formal living area is adjacent to the entrance door. The simple furniture set in the formal living area looks chic. A long corridor from here leads to the dining area where the family living area and the TV unit too have been arranged. Meanwhile, the compact staircase is just behind this area.

The quaint skylight courtyard near the dining area is an interesting feature. This fills the dining area with golden sunshine. The wall here is highlighted with beautiful cladding tiles in attractive hues. A glass door in the dining area opens to the main courtyard. The greenery in the courtyard could be enjoyed from here if this door is opened.

The staircase leads to an upper living area and two bedrooms. The bedrooms are furnished minimally with just the required facilities. The bath attached bedrooms have in – built wardrobes for storage. The simple mirror decorations on the head side walls are incredibly attractive.

The balcony, meanwhile, is the highlight of the upper floor. Chairs are arranged here to enjoy the fabulous view of the splendid countryside. Moreover, the balcony has become the family’s favourite spot to enjoy the evenings.

One could access this balcony from the outside too. So, the plants and the mini garden could be tended even if the family is not home. This area could be turned into a detached space if the doors to the interiors are shut. Moreover, this area has been designed by ensuring security too.

The family’s friends and relatives who came for the housewarming ritual were impressed by the splendid features and the amazing amenities. The owner and his family are joyous that they got their dream dwelling that fills their hearts with positive vibes.
