Roopesh and Meera had been worried about whether they could build their dream dwelling in the meagre 7 cents plot that they own in Thiruvananthapuram city. The rectangular plot had posed quite a few challenges before the construction began. However, the owners roped in noted architect Srijith who had designed many homes that have become viral for its unique features and splendid amenities.

The family didn’t want the spaces to be congested as the house stands on a small plot. Besides, they wanted their brand-new house to attract everyone’s attention with its fabulous designer features. They were impressed by Srijith’s suggestion to design the structure in the exposed style.

The designing team had to face many challenges while preparing the plan. After leaving the legal setback on the sides, the structure had to be built in just 5 cents. Besides, the backside of the plot was a bit raised too. Interestingly, the structure has been built by retaining this uneven layout. So, the interior spaces too have been designed in multiple levels.

The elevation features the flat box style to suit the small plot. The spaces are designed by ensuring excellent cross ventilation. Lots of air holes can be seen on the walls to push out the hot air and bring in the cool breeze. Besides, the brick jail that has been installed on the upper floor to let in natural sunshine acts as an interesting designer element too.

Designed in 1260 sqft, this splendid abode has a living area, dining space, courtyard, kitchen and a bedroom in the ground floor. Meanwhile, the upper floor has a quaint living area and two more bedrooms. The interiors are designed in the open theme and there is amazing communication between the spaces. The areas are furnished minimally to exude elegance and to make the interiors feel spacious. Gaudy décor or dark hues that hurt the eyes have no place in this charming house. The walls retain the rustic charm of the bricks. The roof, meanwhile, isn’t painted and sports a simple cement finish look.

From the living area, one could enter the dining area that has a double height ceiling. This makes this area look incredibly spacious. Besides, this space acts as a common area that connects both the floors.

The beautiful courtyard is the highlight of the ground floor. One cannot help but notice this mesmerizing green spot which is illuminated by the golden sunshine that falls in through the skylight ceiling. Sitting spaces have been arranged around the courtyard. Interestingly, this area has been merged with the steps of the staircase. This is a unique designer feature that adds classy elegance to the interiors.

The dining and the kitchen are done in the open theme. The kitchen is two steps below the dining area. The cabinets, meanwhile, are built using plywood. The counter top has been paved with granite.

The bedrooms are spacious and have walk – in wardrobes and separate study areas. The closed balcony with jali wall is connected to the bedroom in the upper floor.

Roopesh who works in Technopark is a trained mridangam player too. So, he has named his house ‘Ragam’ which means rhythm to express his love for music. When the pictures of the house warming ceremony were posted on the social media, lots of people gave positive comments about the house. Meanwhile, the family is thrilled that they got an enchanting home just as they had dreamed.
