This NRI house in Malappuram is spacious, classy and beautiful

Malappuram house
The contemporary box-style elevation and simple interiors of the house exude a classy elegance.

Shabeer Ali, an expatriate, is thrilled to share his experiences of building his brand new house in his hometown in Vazhakad at Malappuram, Kerala. The family decided to demolish the old house that was around two and half decades old as the sunlight and cool breeze shied away from entering the house. Besides, the spaces were congested and didn’t suit the modern lifestyle of the family. They wanted a contemporary box-style elevation and simple interiors that exude classy elegance. The owner didn’t forget to build the foundation quite taller and sturdier as flood waters had gushed into the old house during the megafloods.

The splendid combination of green and white hues adds chic elegance to the elevation. Besides, the light green shade dominates the interiors too as it grants a refreshing look to the spaces. Meanwhile, the cantilever balcony is an interesting feature.

Designed in 3200 sqft, this amazing mansion has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining area, kitchen with a work area and five bedrooms. The open interiors are incredibly spacious. Meanwhile, privacy has been ensured wherever it is required. Moreover, the double height spaces make the spaces look and feel roomy.

The main door opens to the formal living area with a double-height ceiling. The wall on the east side is lined with huge windows that bring in lots of golden sunshine.

The custom-made furniture done in plywood with veneer finish perfectly suits the theme of the house. Meanwhile, vitrified tiles have been paved on the floor. The minimal gypsum false ceiling is the highlight of the interiors. Interestingly, the LED light fittings add a unique charm to the false ceiling.

The family living area which is part of the spacious dining hall too has double height ceiling. A door in the dining area opens to the courtyard. Sunshine and refreshing air flows into the house when this door is opened. A sitting space too has been arranged here to enjoy the fabulous nature. Besides, a prayer area too has been separated here by ensuring privacy. A glass door is what connects this area to the rest of the house.

The modern kitchen furnished in a light green colour theme has lots of storage spaces and cabinets. These are done in multi-wood with a spray paint finish. The countertop, meanwhile, has been paved with tiles. A quaint breakfast counter too is part of this open kitchen.

There are three bedrooms in the ground floor while two are in the upper floor. The bath-attached bedrooms have in–built wardrobes for storage. The wardrobe units designed in unique colour themes grants an enchanting ambience to these rooms. From one the upper floor bedrooms, you could enter the balcony built in the cantilever style.

The construction had begun in 2021 when the pandemic had wreaked havoc. So, it took almost a year to complete the construction. The owner, who works abroad, oversaw the construction mostly through WhatsApp calls and video chat. Besides, the fact that the architect firm that designed the house had taken up the contract works too, made things easier. The family, meanwhile, is grateful that they got the house of their dreams.
