Dreamy single-storey house in Kanjirappally that oozes mesmerising charm

When Mathews Mathew who was working in the Middle East bought a plot of land at Thambalakadu near Kanjirappally in the Kottayam district, Kerala, it stood slightly lower from the road. Mathews, his wife Bincy, and children Nia, and Nisa felt a single-storey house was ideal for maintenance as well as for better communication within the family.

They had seen several one-storeyed homes to conclude that they were a much cozy deal than multi-storey homes. Although the plot is low-lying, the plan was drawn in such a way that it can be seen from the road, including the roof of the one-storey house. Engineer Srikant Pangapad smartly designed a single-storey house with four modest-sized bedrooms and attached bathrooms.

The house was completed in 2112 square feet including a porch, sitting room, formal living, family living, dining hall, three bedrooms, kitchen, store, and work area.

The flat roofing was done in GI truss. This also provided a spacious utility area upstairs. They have provided staircase access to this area from the family living space.

The interiors are done in a semi-open style. Along with providing space for elaborate conversations, you are also getting sufficient privacy. Combination furnishing and colour moderation in wall painting made the interiors of the house beautiful.

The bedrooms are minimalistic with attached bathrooms and wardrobes.

The kitchen and work area is compact and goes in sync with the family’s lifestyle.

As for Mathews and his family, they are happy with all the compliments for their new abode. “For people like us who want to live in one-storeyed homes, this is a dream home,” is the constant refrain they are hearing from visitors.
