This contemporary house with marvellous design is a landmark in Adoor

Adoor Pannivizha House
The box-shaped elevation lends a chic look to the edifice.

Sabu and Bindu are thrilled to show around their brand-new house in their hometown in Pannivizha, Adoor in Pthanamthitta district, Kerala.

The family began pondering about building a new house as their old ancestral house, which was more than four decades old, began showing signs of dilapidation. The old structure has been retained and the new house is built just behind it. The house has been designed in the modern–contemporary architectural style. The box-shaped elevation lends a chic look to the edifice. The most amazing fact about the structure looks uniquely different from different sides. Currently, the entry is through the gate of the old house. The family plans to move the entry to the side by installing a new gate there, in the future. Then, that side would become the entrance area of the house. The plan was drawn with unique looks on all sides, foreseeing this.

GI sunshades of double height have been added to block the harsh sun rays that fall from the west side. Moreover, these act as stylish designer elements too. The car porch is designed in the detached style with a show wall on the side. This feature is intended to disguise the utility space in the side courtyard. Besides, there is a mini GI sunshade in front of the sit-out. Interestingly, an open courtyard has been arranged behind this area. Eugenia indoor plant adds a refreshing hint of greenery here.

Designed in 2500 sqft, this amazing abode has a sit-out, living and dining areas, a courtyard, two bedrooms, a wash area and a kitchen with an adjacent work area in the ground floor. Meanwhile, the upper floor has a living area, two more bedrooms and a balcony too.

The entrance door opens to a simple formal living area. Provisions to install a TV unit has been arranged here. The corridor wall painted in a vibrant shade of yellow is unmissable as soon as the door opens. Sitting spaces have been arranged here too.

The stairway, prayer area, and courtyard are arranged in the spacious dining hall. A sliding glass door is what connects the dining area with the courtyard. Besides, it ensures amazing cross ventilation too. A quaint garden has been arranged in the courtyard to amp up the ambience.

Golden sun rays that enter from the double-height skylight ceiling above the staircase illuminate the interiors with natural light. So, there is no need to switch on the lights inside the house during the daytime.

The riser of the staircase isn’t too tall so as to make it comfortable for the old people in the house. Meanwhile, the prayer area has been separated by highlighting a part of the wall beneath the stairway. A bench and an indoor plant too have been arranged here to make it a comfortable spot.

The family preferred having the wash area away from the dining area. The old house had a spacious kitchen. However, the compact kitchen in the new house is just perfect for a small family. Interestingly, the skylight on the ceiling brings ample sunlight into the kitchen. Interestingly, a quaint counter area has been separated here to relax while cooking. It is used as a breakfast spot too. An adjacent work area completes the modern kitchen.

A bedroom in the ground floor has been specially designed to suit the needs of the old parents. The couple’s only daughter works in the IT sector. So, her bedroom in the upper floor has a separate workstation too.

Wire fencing has been done to separate both houses that stand in the same plot. Vines like passion fruit have been allowed to grow on it. Now, it has become a green fence that looks incredible. Besides, a separate stair is arranged outside the house to access the terrace. The family members are happy to move into their dream dwelling.
