This Kozhikode house in small plot is a flourish of grandiloquence

Lobeesh, an expatriate is thrilled as he shows around his brand new house in his hometown in Kakkodi in Kozhikode, Kerala. Interestingly, the spacious house stands in a mere 4.5 cents plot. The house is designed to make maintenance easier as only his wife and son stay here.

The elevation features a flat box style to suit the layout of the rectangular plot. Meanwhile, the terracotta jali and glass wall ensure an amazing supply of natural light and air inside the house.

The lightweight car porch done in steel with a polycarbonate finish was added later. The house designed in 1750 sqft has a sit-out, living and dining areas, a kitchen and a bedroom on the ground floor. Meanwhile, there are two more bedrooms and a balcony on the upper floor.

The interiors are designed in an open style to make the spaces look and feel vast. Interestingly, the amazingly designed interiors ensure that the house hardly looks like it has been built on such a smaller plot.

The family made sure to arrange a terrace garden as they love adding some greenery. The balcony has been turned into a fabulous garden after waterproofing the area.

The concept of ‘house that grows upwards’ has been followed here. So, an additional floor could be easily constructed, if required, in the future. A stair room has already been constructed to make the work easier. Besides, this spot could be used for small gatherings and parties.

The family, meanwhile, is proud that their dream dwelling has become a major landmark in the locality.
