There is an all-white abode in Pallam, Kottayam which is the residence of merchant navy captain Kurian Joseph. Crafted to perfection under the supervision of captain Joseph himself, and brought to life by builder Rajesh, this 5, 000-sq ft masterpiece sits on a generous 28-cent plot. The thoughtful ‘offset’ in design allows for an inviting approach from the gate to the house, optimising the use of space.
The compound wall has been shaped out of white-painted cement rings used to reinforce the walls of wells. Paving tiles have been used to landscape the exterior of this ‘white palace.’
Spotless white and glass stand as the defining elements of the elevation. Adorned with a fusion of geometric patterns, the elevation bestows upon the house an unmistakably ultramodern and contemporary allure. Gracefully tucked to one side, the car porch, sporting a tiled roof, seamlessly integrates without marring the aesthetic splendour of the house.
The sliding door graciously reveals a welcoming sit-out, flooded with ample skylight. Beyond the main door, is an elegant double-height hall that exudes a harmonious fusion of white and glass. Bathed in the abundant sunlight, the room remains illuminated throughout the day, negating the need for supplementary lighting. With well-planned cross-ventilation, the airy ambiance is welcoming. The homeowners attest to the ease of maintenance in their white-themed rooms.
The furniture is from UP and the living room has a wooden flooring. The large windows allow views to all sides. A full-size glass door opens to the centre of the house which has a tranquil pool. It is visible from most parts of the house.
On one side of the hall is an eight-seater dining table and on another side is the family living space. The kitchen is organised in a gold-and-white theme and the counter is in a boat shape, to chime with the vocation of the house owner. The beautiful chimney looks like an adornment.
The bedroom in the lower level has a bay window. The bedroom also has direct access to the pool. The washroom has an open, rain shower area. The upper level has a master bedroom, a children’s bedroom, and a room for the guests. The house also has a lift that goes to the terrace.
