Paul Mangaly and his wife Jugnu Paul returned to Kerala, ending their expatriate life, dreaming of building a house of their own in their hometown, Angamaly. Lovers of the classic colonial style, the couple communicated their ideas with the architects. They wanted a beautiful abode that pays homage to the timeless colonial bungalow.

The house boasts majestic arches inspired by the tropical and colonial architectural styles, spacious verandah and eye-catching clerestory windows. Besides, the owners were keen to add all the modern features and facilities to suit their lifestyle.

The amazing cross ventilation ensures that the rooms have a pleasant atmosphere. Moreover, the windows open to the spectacular greenery of the surrounding garden.

The wide verandah that embraces the formal living area enhances the elegance of the structure. During summers, this verandah effectively blocks the harsh sunlight while illuminating the interiors with soft lighting.

A wooden screen with fluted glass is what separates the foyer and the prayer area in the front. Meanwhile, the bedrooms are spacious and well-lit with natural light. Separate dressing spaces and attached bathrooms too are part of the bedrooms.

The double-height ceiling in the living and dining areas and the clerestory windows with panelling works ensure that the interiors are filled with amazing sunshine.

Meanwhile, the staircase, with sturdy hand railings done in cast iron exudes vintage vibes. Moreover, the beautifully designed stairway is a smart addition that separates the dining area and the family living space. A folding – sliding door in the dining area opens to the tranquillity of the verandah that faces the lush green lawn.

The furniture pieces in the brass finish are exquisite and stay true to the colonial theme. Besides, the grand chandelier adds to the aesthetic quality of the interiors. The kitchen is modern and spacious with the cabinet shutters done in teak wood. Meanwhile, the enamelwork on the antique brass handles is an amazing reminder of the past.

Each space in this house has been meticulously decorated with splendid hues and textures, amazing upholstery works, chic curtain fittings and mesmerizing flooring works that artistically merge into a visual wonder.
