This house in Chettikulangara, Alappuzha, Kerala seamlessly combines modernity with the timeless charm of the original 100-year-old edifice that once stood here. Architect Ramesh Krishnan deliberately preserved the traditional elements of the house, ensuring they weren't overshadowed by modernity. He incorporated a GI-truss roof paved with tiles, which adds to its enduring, antique appeal.

The house is oriented towards the east, and it boasts the aesthetic charm of single-stone pillars sourced from Karaikudi, enhancing the appeal of the verandah. Additionally, the outer verandah includes a dedicated pooja space.

The lower level of the house comprises the living area, dining room, courtyard, kitchen, work area, and two bedrooms. On the upper floor, there is one bedroom and an office space. The GI-truss roofing encapsulates all the space except one bedroom and the kitchen.

Prabhas and Latha had a specific preference for spacious living, having previously resided in relatively smaller homes in larger cities. This preference influenced the incorporation of an outdoor living space into the design, which has now become a central gathering area for the household.

Access to the main living space is provided through a door equipped with a digital lock, where the TV unit is prominently located. The dining and living areas seamlessly open up to a courtyard, enhancing the overall openness and flow of the home.

The dining area seamlessly connects to the kitchen, featuring a well-organized breakfast counter. Ample storage space is available in this area, and there is also an adjoining work kitchen.

The master bedroom provides access to the courtyard, while the stair landing area has been transformed into a charming bay window. This bay window serves as an aesthetic focal point within the house, offering a relaxing space for leisure, work, or reading while enjoying views of the external pond and lush green surroundings.

The office space on the top floor harmonizes with the bedroom and includes its own bay window. Additionally, the open terrace has been repurposed into a utility space.

Celebrating the perfect blend of modern comfort and timeless elegance, Prabhas and Latha’s home is a testament to thoughtful design, offering both family gathering spaces and tranquil corners to embrace the beauty of everyday living.
