This is an architect’s handiwork and a definitely different one to say. Located in Sreekandapuram, Kannur, Kerala, this creation by architect Thanvi Ashik is a testament to innovative design, featuring an 'A' frame structure for the office-cum-residence. The lower level houses the office, while the upper one is designed like a studio apartment, offering a compact yet functional living space. The structure avoids any decorations as this is a secondary residence. It is noteworthy that this design cleverly utilises the space for multiple purposes — not just as an office but also as a versatile living area.

The 'A'-shaped facade stands as the main attraction, constructed with ACP sheets and elevated on a GI frame. This gives a distinctive elegance to the car porch elevation. The nameboard of AnT Architects is placed here. The slanted roof shingles next to the porch contribute to the white-and-wood theme, enriching the aesthetics. The ground floor accommodates a visiting area, an architect’s room, and a workspace, while the upper floor houses a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen, spreading across a total area of 1,800 square feet.

The architect was mindful of retaining the privacy of his upper-floor home even as the office functioned there. So, the entrance to the home is through a detached staircase. The design approach is minimalistic, with a formal living area designed to welcome guests. A dedicated cabin and workspace have been arranged for personal use, allowing oversight of other areas. The kitchen is designed with a minimalistic approach, utilising aluminium to minimise costs.

One wall of the master bedroom is in glass and this allows enough light in. This new design where the roof and wall merge has of late been becoming popular. There are many resorts opting for this A-frame design and that is one reason why this house was designed so. On a happy note, architect Thanvi says it is refreshing to show his innovative home-office design to clients who approach him.
