In urban areas and cities where land costs a bomb, one might be able to purchase only 5 or 6 cents in order to construct a dream abode. In such cases, the practical way is to utilize the spaces wisely and build a space-efficient house. Moncy who is settled in Dubai too wanted to build a space-efficient house in their 6-cent rectangular plot at Kalamassery in Ernakulam, Kerala. The elevation and the landscape have been designed to suit the layout of the plot. Meanwhile, the elevation features a contemporary box pattern. It was compact planning that helped the architect design such a fabulous house with all the facilities in a small plot.
Designed in 3000 sqft, this amazing abode has a car porch, sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen with a work area and two bedrooms on the ground floor. Meanwhile, the upper floor has two more bedrooms, upper living area, library and a pool area too.
A beautiful indoor courtyard is what draws your attention as soon as you enter the formal living area from the sit-out. Interestingly, a courtyard has been arranged beneath the staircase too. An informal sitting area completes this well-furnished space.
The modern GI staircase is covered in timber panelling to make it look elegant. Meanwhile, the glass hand railings perfectly match the timber panelling. The semi-open interiors make the spaces look and feel vast. However, semi-partitions have been used to ensure privacy at certain areas. Good ventilation and ample supply of natural light often become a challenge while constructing houses in smaller plots. Here, openings are given in the path of the wind to copious breeze and sunshine. The family, that loves greenery, included lots of indoor plants to decorate the spaces.
Unique flooring ideas have been used to highlight the interior spaces. For instance, classy wooden-hued tiles are used in the living room. The bedrooms are designed in unique colour themes. Meanwhile, the master bedroom is incredibly spacious, exuding the luxurious vibes of a resort.
The bath attached bedrooms have in-built wardrobes and separate dressing spaces too. One of the bedrooms stand out for its fabulous design combining black-tint and timber. Interestingly, storage spaces are arranged on the head side walls too in order to make the bedrooms space efficient. This house is the perfect example of smart planning that overcomes spatial challenges with excellence in design.
