Compact and classy, this Alappuzha house is a dream built in white

The standard box-type elevation of the house perfectly fits the 21-cent rectangular plot. Special arrangement

The contemporary ‘white’ house in the mesmerizing countryside of Kodukulanji near Chengannur in Alappuzha, Kerala is an absolute head-turner. The family wanted a simple and minimal, single-storey house with all the modern facilities. Moreover, they wanted to complete the 2000 sqft house in under seven months. The standard box-type elevation of the house perfectly fits the 21-cent rectangular plot.

The car porch that could accommodate up to two cars and a two-wheeler is built away from the structure in white theme. A sturdy roofing sheet is used on the car porch that is constructed using square tubes. Meanwhile, the gate and the car porch were completed on an extremely affordable budget of Rs 1 lakh.

The elegant white colour theme grants a scintillating look to the contemporary elevation. The house, designed in 1750 sqft, has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with work area and three bedrooms and attached bathrooms.

The custom-made shoe rack in the sit-out has an in-built sitting space. Meanwhile, the entrance door has been built in exquisite teak wood. The interiors are simple yet classy, featuring minimal furnishing.

The entrance door opens to the formal living area adorned with beautiful readymade furniture pieces. Both the formal and family living areas have been designed as part of the spacious open hall. Meanwhile, semi-partitions are used to ensure privacy.

From the formal living area, one could enter the hall where the family living area and the dining space too are arranged. The family living area is a cosy spot, with a TV unit and sitting areas. Meanwhile, the dining table can comfortably accommodate up to six guests. The wash area and the common bathroom are arranged away from the dining area to ensure privacy.

Two of the three bedrooms are bath-attached. These rooms are furnished minimally with in-built wardrobes and separate dressing spaces. The kitchen and the adjacent work area are open and spacious. The countertop has been paved with granite. Besides, lots of storage spaces too are included here.

Even though the structure is a single-storey house, the open terrace offers an option to build an additional floor, if required in the future. The construction of this charming abode, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a budget of Rs 40 lakh.
