How Kozhikode couple planned their new abode as revenue-generating model

Nishanth and Anu wanted their brand-new house at Vellimadukunnu in Kozhikode, Kerala, to be a source of income and not just a dead investment after a few years. They were clear about their requirements and had everything planned, which made it easier for the architect to design a beautiful home that fitted their concept.
The couple has two school-going kids; so, they needed separate rooms with all the facilities. After a few years, the children may move out for higher education or to pursue their careers. The family plans to rent out the upper floor then, which will earn them extra income. Moreover, the couple says that they wouldn’t feel lonely as there would always be someone at the house.
The upper floor has two bedrooms, a bathroom, a hall, and a separate kitchen too. Besides, a separate staircase is built outside, giving access to this floor. A family can comfortably live here while the owners will get an additional income. The structure has been designed to suit the rectangular plot. The double-layered, tile-paved slope roof of the house is perfect for the weather conditions here. Regionally sourced laterite stones have been used for building the structure. The laterite walls are left unplastered in many spots to grant a rustic charm to the interiors.
There is a sit-out, living area, dining space, kitchen with a work area, and two bedrooms on the ground floor. The interiors are designed in an open theme. Meanwhile, the spaces have been designed to ensure excellent air circulation and an ample supply of natural light. So, there is no need to switch on the lights inside the house during the day.
The interiors mostly don earthy tones that are delightful for the eyes. Kota stones are paved on the floor in the common areas. Meanwhile, the rustic-themed ceiling perfectly complements the flooring pattern. The compact kitchen opens to the dining area. The cabinets here are done in plywood with a laminate finish. An adjacent work area completes the modern kitchen.
The bedrooms aren’t congested and open to the vibrant greenery. You could enter the garden area through a huge glass window in the master bedroom. Meanwhile, the quaint green spot in the bathroom is an interesting feature. Houses like these could be altered or customised as per the requirement of the owners eventually, and most importantly, provide an extra income. Besides, they suit the present climatic conditions of Kerala.
