The general idea of home safety is often limited to building a sturdy compound wall and a gate. Most people wish to have a compound wall for their house; so, a gate too should be fixed to get in and out of the premises. However, it would be better to fix the gate by considering the rules of vaastu shastra. While constructing a house, most people are worried whether they are sticking to the vaastu or not. Vaastu shastra is an Indian system of architecture that focusses on positive energy and often combines science with astrological calculations.
The entrance door separates the interiors and the exteriors ensuring uninterrupted energy flow. The gate too does the same job as it separates as well as stops whatever is unnecessary. That is probably the reason why our elders advise to consider vaastu while fixing gates. The shape, design and patterns on the gate should match the compound wall and the pillars. Now, most people prefer automatic or electrical gates as they are considered safer. Meanwhile, vaastu shastra prescribes unique rules for constructing the compound wall and the gate.
The vaastu of each house is determined on the basis of the unique structure and geographical features of the plot. As per vaastu rules, each house and the land it stands on has a life and a soul. It is believed that if the house is constructed by honouring this concept, then the house and its residents can enjoy good fortune and peace of mind.
Note these tips while building a compound wall and gate
The compound wall should be taller and wider at the south-west side; it is alright if this isn’t followed in the east-north side. This is done to effectively block the harsh sun rays coming from the south-west side. Meanwhile, it is better to begin the construction of the compound wall from the south-west side. The gate shouldn’t be fixed on the south side, especially in the extreme corner. The gate should always open inwards and should turn clockwise while opening.
The gate shouldn’t make any noise while closing or opening as it is considered a bad omen. Besides, there shouldn’t be any other compound wall, tree, pillar or sewage in front of the compound wall or gate. However, if these are at a distance which is twice the height of the house, then it is alright. Moreover, the compound wall shouldn’t be built to conceal the house as it blocks the inflow of positive energy.
