Mani and Jolly are lovers of Kerala’s own architecture and often admire the houses that feature traditional designs. They couldn’t think of any other style than the grand elegance of traditional architecture when they decided to build their own house. The fabulous abode in their hometown Mannuthy in Thrissur, Kerala faces the east. Meanwhile, the plot opens to two adjacent roads. The multi-layered sloped roof is paved with mud tiles which is the most conventional feature of a traditional home.

The trees in the plot have been retained besides adding verdant lawns, small trees, shrubs and flowering plants in the garden. Instead of a regular sit-out, a traditional mandapam (pavilion) is built to relax outside and enjoy the greenery.

Eco-friendly materials like clay tiles, claddings, terracotta, jali and timber are lavishly used for furnishing in this house. Meanwhile, the furniture pieces are aesthetically carved in exquisite timber to match the general ambience of the house.

Although the ceiling in the formal living area, adorned with intricate carving details, looks like timber, it is done in multi-wood. Meanwhile, a wall in the family living area is highlighted with a grey texture; a TV unit is installed here. The folding door here opens to the beautiful courtyard.
