Near-impossible home architecture in Thrissur that has overcome spatial constraints

The homeowners share the story of how they amazingly built a house on a plot with very little width. They are from Pazhanji, Thrissur. When the family divided the property, they received 6.5 cents, but the width was only 4.5 meters. They approached many people to build a house, but many turned them down, saying that a house on such a narrow plot was impractical. Finally, they went to engineer Paul Jacob, who gave the green light and drew up the plans. Their budget was also limited. Despite this, they successfully built a comfortable house within their budget.

They did their homework thoroughly, from the foundation. They dug the foundation carefully and laid the floor with concrete all at once. To save space, they used thin cement blocks for the walls. By cleverly arranging the spaces, they overcame the space constraints. The living, dining, and kitchen areas are arranged in a single hall in a straight line. Therefore, when you enter, you don't feel cramped.
Usually, kitchen cabinets are made with multi-wood and laminate finishes. However, here they used only multi-wood, omitting the laminate. When building a house on a narrow plot, wind, light, and cross-ventilation can be challenging. Side windows wouldn't be enough. To overcome this problem, they increased the height of the rooms and added skylights to the ceiling. This allows sufficient natural light to fill the interior.

Although the budget was limited, they wanted the main door and other parts to be made of wood. Accordingly, the main door, window frames and other woodwork were made of wood. The bedrooms are the most spacious, each with an eight-foot width. One bedroom's attached toilet can also be used commonly; two doors were provided for this purpose.
Completing the house, including structure and furnishings, for 14 lakh rupees during this time of inflation is no small feat. Now, many people come to see the house. Most of them are those who want to build a house on a similarly small plot.
