Exploring art in architecture: Slice of nature fuses with this Thrissur home

Mail This Article
The house design tailored to an 11-cent plot located in the heart of the city follows an architectural pattern that allows the fabulous home to receive plenty of light and hues of nature. While the plot has a narrow and elongated layout, the elevation is a blend of sloped and flat roofs, in a tropical fusion style. A prefabricated car porch is provided on the side, constructed using a metal and ACP (Aluminium Composite Panel) combination.

The ground floor includes a sit-out, formal living area, family living area, dining area, courtyard, kitchen, work area, and two bedrooms. The upper floor features two bedrooms, a home theatre, and a balcony. The total built-up area is 2940 square feet.

The floor of the family living area is slightly lower than the rest of the floor level, and is finished with wooden flooring. The dining space is adjacent to this. A full-height jaali (lattice) screen is incorporated into the double-height wall of the staircase, with mesh added to keep insects out. One side wall is finished with a double-height cement texture.
The double-height space around the staircase is converted into a courtyard with a water fountain. Low-height indoor plants are placed here. The head side walls of each bedroom are highlighted with wallpaper. The master bedroom has a bay window.

A breakfast counter is provided at the kitchen entry point. The cabinets are finished with plywood and laminate, and the counter is topped with granite. The play of sunlight and shadows through the jaali wall throughout the day is a captivating feature of the house.
