New Delhi: The Health Ministry has warned against going for CT scans in mild Covid cases without the doctor’s advice as it was harmful.

"One CT scan is equivalent to 300 chest X-rays. Repeated CT scans at a young age and exposure to radiation could even cause cancer in the future," said AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria, during a press meet of the Health Ministry.

“No advantage in doing CT-Scan for those with mild Covid symptoms. Even if something is found in the scan, it will be easily cured. Also tests to find the level of biomarkers such as CRP, D-Dimer, and LDH in the blood should be held only if the doctor advises so,” Dr Guleria added.

Covid surge

Even when there are signs of a decline in Covid cases in 13 states, including Maharashtra and Delhi, the cases are rising in Kerala and some other states, according to the Health Ministry.

The Ministry said that the cases were increasing in Kerala, Bihar, Karnataka, Goa, Haryana, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
