A costly anti-inflammation diet: Is it worth the hype, and what's the alternative? Dietician explains

Ever since actress Vidya Balan revealed that she lost weight through an anti-inflammation diet as advised by the Chennai-based Amora group, it has been the new buzzword in the world of weight-loss enthusiasts. Many fitness health providers have also been encouraging those struggling with weight gain issues to go on costly medical checks and customised diets to help them eliminate inflammation-induced weight and build lean muscle. However, many dieticians and doctors have been posting explanations on their social media pages, warning that it's another of those trends that the fitness industry is trying to bank on.
Dietician Rujuta Diwekar recently posted on her social media page that inflammation is a natural process that occurs in your body in response to injuries and germs. "You need that inflammation to heal and repair your tissues. It also needs to decrease with time. No one food, diet or routine can intervene and stop it. Only a proper lifestyle can remove it correctly," Rujuta says in her post.
Here's how various lifestyle elements can be used in the right manner as an alternative to the costly anti-inflammation diets:
1) Exercising in the right amount
According to Rujuta, it is important to exercise to recover from the impact of today's workout the next day. It's best to sign up for challenging, diverse workouts that indulge various parts of your body throughout the week. There should be enough room for recovery. The key to having an effective routine is striking a balance and not doing it too much or too little.
2) Food
The dietician urges us to eat homemade food made of local ingredients that our body is used to. At the same time, the timing of our meals and the portions we consume are also extremely important. Eat your food mindfully, keeping away from distracting screens. Also, do not fall prey to new diets that surface repeatedly, ensuring results.
3) Sleep
While burning the midnight oil might not affect your health much during youth, it can have significant adverse effects like chronic inflammation later. Therefore, prioritise sleep and ensure your body gets enough uninterrupted, sound sleep for 7 to 8 hours.
