Wedding postponed, Kerala groom converts venue into relief camp
Jaydeep (L) had his marriage fixed with Surya Sarath on August 19.

Changanassery: The flood fury in Kerala that continue unabated has forced celebrations and ceremonies across Kerala to be called off or postponed. Marriages, receptions, engagements were cancelled invariably in view of the precarious situation.

However, K J Jaydeep, a native of Neelamperoor in Kurichy near Kottayam, whose wedding was fixed this Sunday, went a step further. He turned a good Samaritan by converting the marquee erected before his house for the post-wedding ceremonies into a relief camp as nearby places got submerged.

Jayadeep had his marriage fixed with Surya Sarath daughter of Dr Sarath and Sreelatha Sarath in Vechoochira on August 19. However, the continued rain and floods inundated vast areas around the Vechoochira where the marriage was to be held. The nearby towns of Ranni and Erumely were flooded and disconnected as the roads leading to the marriage venue were waterlogged at many places. This forced the families of the bride and the groom postpone the wedding.

Jaydeep and his family then decided to leave the pandal to relief operations. The pandal was also functioning as a makeshift kitchen to prepare food for flood survivors until a relief camp by the panchayath was opened nearby.

The two families have informed that the new date for the wedding is September 2 and that there would be no change in venue and time.

Kerala has been ravaged by unprecedented floods following torrential rains that also triggered landslides, claiming more than 100 lives since August 8.

Jaydeep has since been engaged in rescue works and can be reached on mobile number: 8848868110
